This award was created to honor John P. Sullivan, who continues to be a supportive, outstanding citizen who has demonstrated initiative, commitment, and innovation by reaching out to the community in both an advocacy and fundraising capacity on PARC’s behalf.

John was a manager and coach of the Plainville Little League for 20 years.  In that capacity, he had an enormous impact on team members and families due to his strong beliefs in teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.  John has also been a longtime supporter of Scouting, and through his assistance and encouragement, led his nephew to receive his Eagle Scout Award.

Suffering from Parkinson’s disease has hardly slowed John down; his dedication to people with developmental disabilities in our community is stronger than ever.  John regularly advocates for PARC and raises funds for our events – it was a common occurrence to see him canvassing neighborhoods and building relationships with local residents.

In addition to his work with PARC, he has also been an active member of the Plainville Senior Center’s Men’s Group and has assisted with many of their events.

In 2005, John was named the Plainville Citizen Volunteer of the Year for his many outstanding contributions to our community.  Recipients of PARC’s John P. Sullivan award are truly honored to be in such good company.
