Main Street Community Foundation recently showcased our Senior Ladies group on its social media – thank you!

“For 65 years, PARC, Inc of Plainville has provided family centered services for people with developmental disabilities while promoting and protecting the human rights of their clients. PARC offers a variety of social and recreational programs for all ages which are designed for the specific needs of each group.

Last fall, MSCF awarded a $5,000 grant from the Women & Girls Fund for their Aging with Disabilities program for senior women in Plainville. Facing the changes that come with aging is challenging for anyone, but those challenges can be compounded for people with developmental disabilities, which is why this program was developed. Aging with Disabilities meets weekly and currently welcomes six senior women who through the program are provided sisterhood, support, and peer communication, and are expecting to increase the number of participants soon.

PARC says that the Aging with Disabilities program, “is facilitated by women, which provides an ideal connection to our members, and we have experienced notable improvements in verbal communication and, in some cases, improvements to physical health and sleep.” MSCF was proud to give support for this program through the Women & Girls Fund, a fund whose mission it is to help women and girls obtain the skills they need to lead successful lives.”
